Project description

  • collaboration on a short-term strategic project to modernize the Group Data Warehouse platform in a banking environment
  • the project focuses on assessing the existing Oracle Data Warehouse environment and preparing a strategy for its migration to Databricks
    • the main output will not be the complete migration itself, but the design of the target architecture, evaluation of migration scenarios, identification of risks, and creation of a concrete roadmap for subsequent implementation
    • the goal is to assess the possibilities of migrating the existing Group Data Warehouse solution from the Oracle technological environment to a modern platform built on Databricks
  • analysis of the current Oracle GDWH architecture, existing ETL processes, and utilization of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
    • preparation of recommendations for an optimal migration scenario and design of the high-level target architecture of the future Databricks platform
  • the project will also include an assessment of whether, from a technological and strategic perspective, it is appropriate to first perform an upgrade of the existing ODI environment or to proceed directly with migration to Databricks
  • the result should be a clear and feasible Oracle-to-Databricks migration roadmap, which will serve as a basis for subsequent implementation phases
  • tasks and responsibilities:
    • analysis of the existing Group Data Warehouse architecture
    • assessment of the Oracle Data Warehouse / Oracle Exadata environment
    • analysis of the existing ETL/ELT landscape
    • analysis of the utilization of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
    • assessment of migration possibilities from Oracle / ODI to Databricks
    • design of the high-level target Databricks architecture
    • comparison of individual migration scenarios
    • assessment of direct Oracle → Databricks migration
    • evaluation of ODI upgrade as a possible transitional solution
    • design of recommended migration strategy
    • identification of technical and organizational dependencies
    • identification of migration risks and proposal of mitigation measures
    • design of individual migration phases and milestones
    • preparation of a roadmap for subsequent implementation
    • design of a pilot implementation
    • consideration of existing data governance and security standards
    • preparation of architectural and strategic documentation
    • presentation of results and recommendations to stakeholders and management
  • expected project outputs:
    • Current State Assessment of the existing Oracle GDWH and ODI environment
    • Target Architecture Diagram for the Databricks platform
    • Migration Assessment Report comparing options and recommended approach
    • design of further steps for Oracle Data Integrator upgrade
    • Migration Roadmap with individual phases, milestones, and timeline
    • Risk Register with main risks, dependencies, and mitigation measures
    • recommendations for pilot implementation
    • Executive Summary Presentation for key stakeholders
  • collaboration in an international team

Project requirements

  • min. 4-year demonstrable project experience as Data Architect / Engineer
     
  • senior practical experience with Databricks / Azure Databricks
  • experience in designing the architecture of modern data platforms
  • demonstrable experience with cloud migration / data platform modernization projects
  • strong knowledge of the Oracle Data Warehouse environment
  • practical knowledge of Oracle Data Integrator (ODI)
  • experience with ETL/ELT architecture and migration scenarios
  • ability to analyze large existing data environments
  • experience in designing target architecture
  • ability to compare technological and migration alternatives and prepare recommendations
  • experience with data governance and enterprise data platforms
  • ability to identify technical risks, dependencies, and migration constraints
  • experience in creating migration roadmaps
  • ability to prepare architectural documentation and present recommendations to senior stakeholders
  • ability to work independently with a high degree of ownership
     
  • active knowledge of the English language, spoken and written (min. B2-C1)
     
  • advantageous:
    • experience with Oracle Exadata
    • experience with Oracle Warehouse Builder
    • experience with large enterprise Data Warehouse migrations
    • practical experience with Oracle → Databricks migration
    • experience with the Azure data ecosystem
    • experience in designing Lakehouse architecture
    • experience with data governance and security frameworks in the financial sector
    • experience from banking or regulated environments
    • experience in preparing and executing migration pilots / PoCs
