Project description
- design and deployment of a centrally managed solution for automated dependency management using Renovate
- scaling the solution for thousands of GitLab repositories and reliably creating updates via merge requests
- automation of library, container image, and build tool updates to reduce security risks and manual work
- design of the target architecture and operational model, including self-hosted Renovate, distributed workers/runners, job scheduling, cache, and API limit management
- automatic discovery and onboarding of repositories without the need for manual configuration of individual projects
- creation and management of central, versioned configuration standards, including update rules, grouping, time windows, and automatic merging
- enabling teams to extend the central configuration at the individual repository level
- secure management of access data and registries, application of the principle of least privilege, and prioritization of updates
- implementation of monitoring, logging, dashboards, and metrics for update throughput, error rates, and repository coverage
- overall organizational and technical oversight of the Renovate deployment and gradual rollout from the pilot phase through individual waves to full coverage
- preparation of documentation, methodological guidelines, and training for development teams
- project planning, roadmap creation, prioritization, and coordination of the GitLab platform team, security, development teams, and management
- practical involvement in architectural decisions, prototyping, and solving critical implementation phases
- technical review of implementation and expert guidance of involved engineers
Project requirements
- min. 5 years of experience in managing technical projects in large IT environments
- ability to manage the implementation and rollout of a solution across multiple teams, both organizationally and technically
- experience with:
- Renovate tool and its central configuration management
- GitLab including CI/CD, API, and group/permission model
- distributed, scalable systems and container platforms, especially Kubernetes
- software chain security principles
- secure management of credentials, permissions, and CVE-related updates
- technical supervision of implementation and mentoring of engineers
- ability to independently implement solutions and validate designed concepts through prototypes
- technical understanding of DevOps and software development processes
- English at a communicative level (spoken and written)
- organizational skills, independence, and ownership
- analytical thinking and problem-solving mindset
